Hopefully anyone thinking of buying a GPS Sat Nav will heed this warning. Manufacturers recommend the maps and points of interest need updating about once a year to reflect new roads, POIs and the like. Guess what, they charge you up to $130 to download the updates. Almost the price I paid for the unit. The solution? Buy yourself a brand new Sat Nav from someone else who offer an equally good system but, unlike Garmin or Tomtom, do not rip their customers off. Pricing policies like this lose large numbers of customers and can seriously damage a companies reputation. |

if it was £10 for a map update then I'd update at least every year (and every time I went on a big trip to a place i've never been before). Instead, I gawp at the cost of £70 and think to myself that I will never buy another Garmin product again.
Total rip-off. I wonder how many casual purchasers of sat-nav's would buy them if the manufacturer's were made to advertise the cost of updates on the box. |

I'm blowed if I'm going to pay £25 a year for a speed camera subscription. A charge I find outrageously expensive to add to what I already paid. |
