I have read on GPS forums about the problem with the terrible FM transmitter on the Garmin nuvi (I have the 680 model). Unfortunately I didn�t do any investigating before I spent the extra for a model with this lame feature. I tried one of the suggestions someone had about resetting the country of origin to a country which may allow a higher transmitter output. This did not work for me; perhaps that person had a different rev. of software which actually changed the power output.
I did read that you could go into a diagnostic mode and actually change the output power but unfortunately you can not save the changed setting. I used this very useful tactic to determine if I could find out what changed in the transmitter section when the different power settings were engaged.
After much tinkering I found that by lifting pin 4 of the IC marked BHTX or pin 6 of the IC marked S79 (same electrical connection) it would transmit at a higher power. I hope this helps those of you who do not like listening to hissing with your music. I tried to include a picture of the IC layout but have not figured out how to do that here. I don't know if this modification will cause any detrimental effects to the FM transmitter but if it totally destroys it, I�ll call it a model 650. Remember your warranty is garbage if they can determine that you 'went in'.

I am running Navcore 8413 is the latest navcore you can run on the one unit. an the 8302352 map when I am setting up sonds
and voices the sound stops working also when I play a mp3 song in jukebox the song play but no sound

I am having problems with my Tom Tom, I have managed to update a new 2 GB SD card and have been able to use it, however, I am now having problems with the touch screen freezing. I have been in touch with Tom Tom and went through the instructions given to check the data on the card (took me 4 hours) as I was still having problems the unit was sent away for repair as they thought it was a hardware problem. The unit has been returned stating that there is nothing wrong with it but I still cannot get it to work. Does anyone else have the same problem and can anyone help before I launch it through the window.

The internal memory on the 265Wt is 581 MB. That's a lot. For instance, the POI file for all national parks is 4K.

The .dmg file is a disk image you use to install the program. Check the instructions for installing. You may just need to double click the installer, or it may tell you where to drag the file so it can be loaded.

Hello Everyone, just joined this site, paid the membership feed, there seems to be quite a bit of great information so far, i am trying to add NY and NJ speed traps and redlight cameras to my Garmin i3, i have noticed that the NJ files are the exact same as the NY files when downloading from the safety area, then getting redirected to choose the format i want to download. it seems as though

Red_Light_Camera_us-NJ-New_Jersey.CSv
Speed_Trap-NY-New_Jersey.CSv

and

Red_Light_Camera_us-NY-New_York.CSv
Speed_Trap-NY-New_York.CSv

are the same?
Is this correct.

The 765 has generally worked very well for me but just recently it has been unable to acquire satellites. There appears to be a firmware issue with the 765 / 775 and I updated to the latest version today. It's still not getting a lock so it may have to back under warranty.

I just got a new 740 live. I picked up a 2GB micro SD card. I can't find where to store my mp3 files. What is the directory structure I need to create on the SD card?

Getting close to buying the 765, any problems at all with the model ??
Have an old streetpilot 3 and still works great but memory stick too small. Has been a great unit.
Have a Navman as well and wouldn't waste money on another one..

FYI,
I'm finding that a GPX or CSV file can operate very differently based solely on the Garmin GPS model you are using. My 2720 does tone alerts only and my 885T does both tone and voice alerts. Placement of the text on the screen also is different.

So it is truly a situation where your individual results may vary based on uncontrollable outside limiting factors of your hardware. Testing files in my 2720 was a waste of time since it was only done to see what files I would use on my 885T. My 885T reacted very differently to the files so I had to test them all over again.
