I recently got a new 1390T (with traffic receiver). As supplied, the unit comes with the 2010 Sensis map. I noticed that when I have the Garmin Topo Australia on Micro SD, the unit reboot every so often when navigating even when Topo is disabled.

Have anyone had this experience?

I then removed the Topo map and it is more stable. However, the unit still reboots when it is navigating along Eastlink in Melbourne. This happened twice. I was not sure if the rebooting happened at the same location. Next time I do this, I will have take note.

Have anyone else notice this? I am suspecting that something in the map is causing the unit to reboot.

Hi

I have just got a 1390t I'm in Uk, and I have the same problem, so it is the unit not the mapping I would assume.

Mikethebuyer,
Do you have a Micro SD inserted?
I have now removed the Micro SD. It seems to be more stable.

Thanks for the tip, that was the first thing I did.

When it reboots, it is navigating. Not having a Micro SD installed seems to help.

It seems to be worse when I have the CN map on the device and another routable map on the micro SD even though the map on the micro SD has been disabled. Removing the routable map helps but does not eliminate the problem.

The next thing I will be trying is to remove all maps from the micro SD and see if that makes a difference.

Only a guess, but, if it is more prevelant or only with SD card inserted, it may be a faulty/dirty/loose card and if the connection between card and GPS is lost only momentarily, the GPS would try to reboot and use internal maps.
If it happens with SD card removed, it will be a software problem OR a faulty GPS.

I am upgrade to firmware 3.6. Some corrections for shutdown issues I have seen. Hope it will solve the problem.

I too had this problem despite updating everything via the Garmin website. So after reading numerous links I did the following as described below and so far 1 week in the 1390T hasn't rebooted yet????

Idea Question: How do I perform a master reset on my nuvi 1390T series device?

Answer:
To perform a Master Reset on the nuvi device:
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites you can find instructions to do so below.
1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
o You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
5. Remove your finger from the touch screen when this message displays
6. Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

Idea Question: Can I back up Favorites / waypoints on my nuvi?

Answer:
In order to back up your Favorites:
1. Using a USB data cable, plug the device into a computer
2. Double-click the My Computer icon (Mac users can skip this step)
3. Double-click the nuvi drive (Mac users can find this on their desktop)
4. Double-click the Garmin folder1
5. Double-click the GPX folder
6. Copy the current.gpx file
7. Paste this file to another location on your computer
Once you save a copy of the GPX file on your computer, you have successfully backed up the waypoints within your device.
To restore these Favorites on your device:
1. Using a USB data cable, plug the device into a computer
2. Double-click the My Computer icon (Mac users can skip this step)
3. Double-click the nuvi drive (Mac users can find this on their desktop)
4. Double-click the Garmin folder1
5. Double-click the GPX folder
6. Copy the current.gpx file saved to your computer
7. Paste this file to the GPX folder
8. Unplug the device from the computer
At this time the favorites you backed up should be restored on your device.

Good luck..! Very Happy

I have done the master reset. Does not work with firmware 3.4. The release notes for Garmin indicated a fix for firmware 3.6. They must have known about the rebooting problem. I will keep everyone posted about my experience with the new firmware.

What is the version of the firmware on your unit?

I am on 3.60. Still no problems with rebooting. Perhaps you have a faulty unit?

So far after a couple of days of quite intense testing, there seems to be absolutely nothing wrong (technically) with the unit. Which ... does not mean i like it Smile

The speaker is simply horrible. When you crank it up to 70% or above, the distortion is really bad.

Earlier today I have discovered I can only insert one (1) via point ! If I insert a second via point, it deletes the first one. Are we back to the 90s? Smile

You misunderstood me. I just updated to 3.6. I had problems with 3.4. The little use I have had with 3.6 since updating has been encouraging. There has not been any problem since. However, 3.6 has a bug. I can't seem to search custom POIs in 3.6.

I should add that my original suspicion that the SD card was causing problem does not appear to be true. I have since re-install extra maps on the SD card. As I said since updating to 3.6, I have not seen any stability issue.

I have also read reports from other NUVI people are having good experiences with 3.6. Hopefully 3.6 is the answer.
