How to keep original directions during a long travel?

Hi guys,

I'm traveling during X-Mass from Montreal, Canada to Florida, Cocoa Beach.

This 24 hours travel will take about 36 hours. I expect several rest area stops as well as sleeping in a motel and perhaps visiting some POI during the travel with my family.

Then, here is my question. I set my garmin for the long travel (Montreal - Florida). Arrived at a certain point during my travel, I will decide to stop (I don't know where for now) and perhaps visit some POI or sleep in a bed. Therefore, I need to set a temporarily new direction to go to hotel or POI and the day after, continuing with my initial destination (Florida).

Is there a way to keep several directions active and bypass from one direction to another without erasing or setting from scrath my original direction?

Hope I'm clear enough :-)

mapping

Set up the route you wish to take on your computer, using Mapsource or Basecamp (from Garmin site) and save and download to the GPS.
You can then load the route as many times as you wish, until you delete it.
Go to all your side trips and then just go back and reload your original trip route.

POI Manager

I use both Private POIs and POI Manager to create my own set of points, and simply navigate to the next stop. I also add all important local points.

Private POIs: http://private.gps-data-team.com/
Poi Manager: http://www.gps-data-team.com/convert.php
Local POIs: http://www.gps-data-team.com/map/

The local POI download button is located at the bottom of the map page)
