Posted by mikeman1485 Android Navigator VS GPS What does everyone think of the Android Navigator by google when compared to the navigation features of a tomtom or garmin gps |

Posted by ppa-PDB44 Google V Conventional GPS Any system that needs an online connection to navigate will always be vulnerable to drop outs or connectivity issues. The advantages are that the map data and routing will be coming from a server and therefore hopefully less out of date. |

Posted by kangy323 offline mapping There are apps that rely on having an internet connection and others that have the maps stored for offline access the same as in a navigator, BUT it seems to me that the maps on the free apps are better than in my navigator being updated all the time by the users. It is still early days but the days of a dedicated GPS are numbers I think. |

Posted by kangy323 Dedicated GPS's days are over With the multitude of almost free and free apps for an android and the ability to download them so they are available offline make a dedicated GPS a wast of $$ now, though you need a largish phone for it to work well. I have a 5" and once my Garmin breaks or becomes outdated I wont be buying another. |
