Posted by lyndon Kenwood Vs Garmin, POI Installation I recently installed a 2din Kenwood head unit with Garmin navigation model DNX5380BT. I have followed the threads in the forums for newbies, scoured the garmin and kenwood website for info and called Kenwood for assistance. I can't get assitance from Garmin as the online dashboard does not recogise the kenwood scipted SD card. I can't get support from Kenwood as i subscibe to a third party GPS data provider recommended by the Garmin website although Kenwood tried to sell me a new sd card of the maps for $300 as the POI loader may have corrupted the map file with the third party data..... Now i'm feeling fingered. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |
Posted by Mihail Re: Kenwood Vs Garmin, POI Installation Hi there. I have a Kenwood KNA-G520 using Garmin NT City Navigator Europe. I've used the POI Loader to load them from SD Card. You need both CSV and BMP files. This helps: http://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/topic/2589.html |

I assume that you can also use the POILoader to load direct to the unit rather than risk corrupting your SD Card. I did however load my POI's as follows: create a POI directory on the SD card under the GARMIN directory. { so it will look like x:\GARMIN\POI } and make the destination directory file x:\GARMIN\POI. POILOADER will then create a poi.gpi file in this directory. This is created from the poi.csv, poi.bmp, and optionally poi.mp3 files. PLEASE HOWEVER BE VERY CAREFUL when usng the original map SD since I understand the map data is keyed to the card somehow. So if you mess it up your up for a new map card at approx $200.. and untold frustration. I used a second SD card to make sure I didn't mess up my map SD the first time I did it! Regds Alan |
