Would you like to use custom made TomTom car symbols?
System: TomTom Navcore
Difficulty level: Easy
Time required: 5 minutes
On your PC
1. Open mspaint.exe ( Start > Run > mspaint.exe )
2. Open BMP image that you want to use as a car symbol ( File > Open )
3. Edit image to make some nice symbol
4. Fill in the image background with red (RGB 255,000,000)
5. Resize to size between 24 x 24 pixels and 128 x 128 pixels (e.g. 80 x 80 )
6. Save image as 256 color bitmap (BMP) to your PC
7. Copy your customised car symbol to your TomTom in the subfolder /art/cars
On your TomTom:
1. Disconnect TomTom
2. Goto the main menu > Change preferences > Change car symbol
3. Select your customised car symbol

Don't worry about replying I have found out how to do it now.
These guys have a great little app which get the right files to where they need to download this symbol fix exe.

Hello
Symbol fix guide for all older TomTom devices:
- Once installed the software can be found in Start > Programs > TomTomHeaven
- Once you have chosen the car symbol that you prefer click on OK
This has been tested on a tomtom XL and a tomtom One V1.

| Did you ever get your new car symbol fix to work? I cannot get mine to work. I click onto a different car symbol (Fahrzeugsymbo) - It says it has changed to the new choice, but it keeps the old arrow (Fahrzeugsymbol-Default).

I did this with a small simple black image of a rhino and it worked just fine. Now I am trying to do it with a small color pic and it won't accept it. I can make it 80x80 with a red background and save it as a .BMP and load it on my TOMTOM and it even shows to be there with the other icons. But when I chose it for the symbol it says that it can't use it. Any ideas???

You have to manually creat the art/cars direcory on your device in the \Program Files\Navigator directory.

Others have written that you can add a car symbol to their TomTom One XL, but they say they use a software that ends in .exe. I have a macintosh and .exe programs are for the PC world. Anyone have any ideas how to install car symbols on a TomTom One XL?
My wife bought a TomTom One (the small gps device) and it came with five different cars in 'preferences'. I bought the TomTom One XL thinking it would have all of the same features as the TomTom One. But it seems as if TomTom didn't put the old features in the newer Tom Tom. I don't understand why they would not make a newer and more expensive TomTom that didn't have the features contained in their older models.
Anyone have any ideas how to put a car symbol on my TomTom One XL.
