Does anyone know if the Garmin Nuvi 1490 LMT is capable of speaking voice traffic alerts from custom POI's? I loaded the 3 files for each alert (csv, bmp, and mp3) but all that happens when I come to a place of alert is that it beeps! Would the .wav voice files work in this unit or am I resigned to listening to beeps and trying to figure what they mean?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Suggest trying the .wav file as some units do not recognise the mp3 files.

I owned the same gps unit, and it's the same thing, MP3 file doesn't work, and wav too i think, it's just a beeping sound that's coming out. Anyone have a solution for this? Thank you.

To get the wav files to work, you need to get sox.exe.
See here for the info as to how to use it.

I did try the .wav files subsequently and they worked perfectly.

Thanks for your help!

This question has been covered many, many times.
Do some research and look for sox.exe - you need this file to get the wav file to work.

I did not get the sox.exe file and found it works perfectly without it after I changed it from .mp3 to .wav.

That is correct RR, sox.exe is not needed in every case.. Idea

I recently downloaded cameras to my 1695 live using BMP-CSV and as this unit is not MP3 compatable WAV files, If sox.exe is loaded into Garmin POI Loader it converts as it loads to the unit.It can then be removed from POI loader if desired.

Hi Andy, you can leave sox.exe in the directory with POI loader as it will not hurt anything, and it will save you the trouble of installing it again when required.
