How do you save POI

Can someone help with the best way to save your pois on the computer to best transfer them to my garmin. Is is better to put them in seperate folders i.e. shopping - restaurants etc.

Save anywhere

You can save them anywhere on your PC or external drives for future use. I recommend that you create a folder called Garmin. Within that folder I would create three additional folders called:

Garmin GPX
Garmin POI BMP
Garmin WAV (This f for Nuvi 2xx models)
Garmin MP3 (This is for newer models)

Now when you download a POI (.gpx), save it to Garmin GPX. Save the .bmp file in the Garmin POI BMP forlder and finally save your .wav or .mp3 file in either Garmin WAV or Garmin MP3.

It is importatnt to keep your .gpx files all together. If you don't, each time you load a new POI, it will erase the previously installed one. You need to install them all at once.

To install the POI's you need to use POILoader, which is available on this site. In some cases you may need to download the "sox.exe" file and place into the same folder as your POILoader.exe file.

May I see somehow, doing a quick test that the POI is actually used by the device, I mean if I want to be 100% sure before my trip that the POI is there...

Where POI's are found

To find POI's that you just loaded on your Garmin, look in your extra's tab then POI CUSTOM tab then you will see all that has been loaded. If you touch each on then they will come up on screen ..

No, you only need to download ONE of the two files. I read on this forum that the preferred order of data files is -
1. Garmin GPX or
2. Garmin POI or
3. Garmin POI GPX or
4. CSV
