Can someone tell me if the 3790T will only take the 2GB MicroSD card? Will it be able to take the higher capacity card like the 4GB Micro SDHC card? Thanks.

It definitely can, for new Garmin 3790T, it accepts 4 GB. However, you should be careful about the brand. Some may not be recognised by unit.

Would the Sandisk or Kingston brand be compatible? I also note that these micro SDHC cards also come with higher capacities as well like 8GB and even 16GB. Is there any size limit the 3790T can take at all? Thanks again.

Garmin states that although any brand of micro sd card should work, it recommends SandDisk or Kingston cards. However it warns that Ultra, High Speed (such as 133x or faster) or micro sd cards "specifically used for high end or professional electronics might not work".

Further to the earlier posts the Garmin states that provided a unit has the latest version of software the Nuvi Series of GPSs can use up to a maximum of 16 GB SD cards.

I read the previous comments and this tempted me to check my 3790T. It's 4 Gig but I couldn't recognise the brand. So now I am interested in just what you guys put in that amount of memory space Question Give me some examples.

I suppose any POI that you find useful. For example the location of railway stations, schools, national parks, ATMs etc, etc. If you put them on an SD card then you do not reduce the capacity of your GPS when you need space for updated maps. The GPS Data Team has very many useful POI files that are updated constantly. Laughing

My 1490 needs the micro SD to be FAT not NTFS format. I assume 3790 takes FAT format as well. So make sure you use the proper format.

Anything and everything. Holds and displays all you photos, but mainly maps updated for a foriegn country or your country, poi's, jcv (junction view) and any other things that I don't want Garmin to know about when connecting to there site, or any warranty issues (just remove card and its original again) and for the ease of copying things to it without having to connect gps. Also copying all my updates to my mother and fathers gps so they too have the latest and greatest of everything.
