To all

I am a newbie to this site and have just recently registered and updated my Garmin Nuvi 360. However, when the camera symbol appear it seems to be followed by a grey dot and do not know what this means or how to remove it.

Any advise appreciated.

Thanks

If you did not download the POI icons and put them in the same folder as the POI files, they will appear as grey dots on the map.

That is interesting.
After dumping Cyclops and loading GPS Data Team POI's everything is normal...voice warning, onscreen camera warning in a box...but no camera icons.
And no dot either.
The dots were definitely there previously and also the appropriately coloured .bmp camera icons also appeared on screen.
Loading sox.exe I get a dos terminal type application that will not open, and error message when loading re the .bmp conversion.

Any ideas?

After much trial and error I got the icons to display on-screen. I went looking for some alternative icons to try. There is something wrong with the latest POILoader?

In any case, I got a 16x16 and a 22x22 working. I did try a 25x22 because it looked really good but POILoader freaked out and gave me an "Out Of Memory" error.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Is there a newer firmware than the 2.50 I installed just a few days ago? If not, then Garmin did not fix this problem.

Thanks to Brendan we have a sample:

Garmin 3790T does not like this icon:
(24-bit bitmap)

Good icon:
(8-bit bitmap)

Figure it out... you have to convert all Hi-Res icons to an old 8 bit format...
MSpaint will do the job.

^^^^Thanks Mark for the working Icon. Very Happy

I have the Garmin 1370t and I have the same problem with camera speed icons. It's sad that only one is working, I wanted to have different icons to identify speed cameras and lights cameras. But at least it's working now !

Brendan,

I have changed all my icons over to 8bit but they still wont display. What is the trick? How do they get the speed cameras to display? Is it code?

May be a silly question, but are you loading the camera icon (bitmap file) with the GPX file when you use POI Loader? It is not included in the GPX file, you have to add a file of the same name to work. e,g, camera.gpx and camera.bmp match.

I just purchased a 1450t with speed poi's. This was a replacement for Nuvi 250. I did not want to replace newer poi on new unit so just loaded other poi's from 250. To do this I connected the nuvi 250 to computer and copied the poi file to a folder. On the computer I have .gpx and .csv files with same named .bmp files stored in folder names eg caravan parks, camps aus. I then started POI loader and just loaded one folder into nuvi 250. Once completed I copied the .poi file to computer and renamed it as folder name. This was repeated for all the folders I wanted as poi's in 1450. I then copied the original poi file back to the 250 poi directory. Attached the 1450 to USB and copied the newly created poi files from computer

Hi, Mark

After reading your reply, I remeber that there are only 2 bmp display on my 3790T, then I check them and both of them are 8 bit bmp. Thereby, you are right.

I just resize all of bmp to 8 bit bmp, I am confident that they will work on my 3790T.

This is a newbie question I'm sure but how do you convert the icon to 8bit in MS Paint.
The choices I have with "save as" are
Monochrome Bitmap (*.bmp;*dib)
16 Color Bitmap (*.bmp;*dib) (that throws a warning that some color will be lost and it does affect some icons more than others.
256 Color Bitmap (*.bmp;*dib)
24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp;*dib)
Then JPEG,GIF,TIFF and PNG
Is 16 Color the same as 8 Bit Question

To answer my own question... "Saving the image as a "256 colour bitmap" in MS paint should give you an 8-bit image."
And I can now confirm this to be true and works on my 3790T.
I opened the Icon image in paint and saved with the file format 256 color bitmap. Uploaded my POI's with the POI Loader and it now shows icons where it didn't before Very Happy
