I have a Garmin Nuvi 265WT, is there any way for the SAT NAV to show that I am over speeding and asking me to Reduce Speed...Mind you I want this function to run when no Speed Cams are nearby..

I had another GPS device before and it used to warn me to reduce speed whilst I over speeded.

As far as I know, Garmin gps units do not have this functionality. I agree it would be handy.

Some new GPS models can be set to alert you with a sound once you go over the speed limit. There is no way to change how fast you can go over before it kicks in. It is set to go off once you go 5 MPH over.

Garmin will alert you as soon as you go over by any amount by blinking the speed icon.

I speek for current model Garmin and TomTom units. Older models may have differences. For example, TomTom Navigator 6 on windows mobile did NOT have the speeding warning.

No. This it is currently not possible to have a Garmin alert you to excessive speed when you are not in proximity of a speed camera. They have indicated a future release is not out of the question, however.

Good luck.

WRONG. As per previous message, some Garmin units flash a red warning on screen when over posted speed.

Yes, my Garmin 1340 shows your actual speed in red when you exceed the posted speed limit next to it.

Unfortunately speed limits only show up in the States. Does not work in Canada.

Garmin NUVI 765 shows actual speed in red when you exceed allowed speed. Can anybody give an idea- how to provide audio warning to this feature?

@awskong : It's sad this fonction doesn't work here in Canada, it's very useful in some areas.

Hi Guy's, I think you will find the "problem" or missing warnings are from the company that supplies Garmin with their mapping details. In Australia, they use an Aussie company called Sensis, at the moment and think oyr maps would come from a different supplier. If you were into programming, I think there would be a way to add audible warning also, hopefully will be added in future map updates Smile

Nuvi 3790T provides the visual warning also (current speed turns red), however audible warning would be very useful.

Garmins only show red for overspeed and I dont see it very well except at night.

Nokia e71 using the new nokia maps does say verbally "observe the speed limit".

Should be on every gps device except perhaps the mfgs are paid off by the states so the states may issue more tickets.

The state of Oklahoma doesnt even show speed limits on a gps.

A solution would be for Garmin to offer a tiny utility that we set for a specific speed (maybe even two or three speeds selectable). Say if you want to drive at 55mph you would set it at 60mph which would verbally tell you to reduce speed.

Are you listening Garmin.
