Have a question...

I uploaded new POIs using uploader on my 255W.

Let's say I wanted to get alerted when a speed camera is there.. How can I do that? I am able to see all these new POIs in my extras, but not showing up default in my route map..

All the cameras and speed alerts going to show up in the route map or do I need to do anything extra? Thanks!

Obviosuly downloadthem to your HDD in the format compatible with your GPS, then upload to your GPS, eg Garmin, using a Garmin poi uploader.

Question
Using the POI Loader, do I add the mp3 file to the .gpx files for transferring to my devive (nuvi 3760T) - and which formats are the best to use so I get both audible and visual alerts for the different traffic cameras?

I am a real newbie (and dinosaur!!)

You need the .gpx file and the .mp3 files "named the same with the different extension" to be in the same directory on your hard drive prior to using POI loader, as they all get put into one file called POI.gpi when sent to the GPS..

Post POI automatically loading up?

HI guys, thank you for this site and the help i have already found. as a newbie (and as a mod on another forum apologies if it's been asked before i tried to search), i wondered if i could confirm the following.

i've downloaded the camera-uk.gpx, camera-uk.wav and camera-uk.bmp files (i had to remane the wav file as it downloaded as camera-uk-TrueLocalSearch.wav).

i have uploaded them into my Garmin 265WT using poi loader. now whenever i switch the sat nav on and start driving should the system automatically alert me to the speed cameras or do i need to do something manually?
as standard my nuvi came with a speed camera database which showed a visual alert in grey if lower than speed limit, red if higher than speed limit and a beep for the safety camera, just to make me aware anyway and a constant beeping if over the limit.

is this what i should expect after what i've just done the above?

also, the poi loader stated it's uploaded 338 (or 388) poi's is that right. i would have thought there were more than that in the UK?

thank you for any help - much appreciated.

I tried to load one POI and found that I had wiped out all of my other POIs. You must reload the whole lot or lose the earlier ones. Because of this I have a separate folder on my PC with all of the POI files so that I don't have to download them again...

You dont have to reload them all the time, just rename them in GPS file directory or when loading them into gps device there is an option in POI loader to name the file

When using Garmin POI updater there is manual option where you can alter the distance from when the POI will alert.

What is a reasonable setting distance for the alert eg 500, 300, 100 metres?

Thanks for you recommendations.

Post distance of alerts

If the speed warning was, say 60 kph, the distance would need to be over 100 mtr's unless you wanted to jump on the brakes to get down to 60 kph if you were doing 100+.
Estimate what you think is a reasonable distance to have prior warning, for the indicated zone ahead.

Thanks Johna,

I now understand the logic of adjusting the distances.

I found that on the Uconnect units (Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, etc.) the poi.gpi file needs to be installed from a usb memory stick, not a DVD or a DS card

Hi all
As a newby Garmin 2595LMT owner, it took me a while to work out the inticracies of POI installation!
Eventually, I figured that all files had to have the same name, AND an icon was required for each state (ie 1 icon doesn't work country wide!)
But now all up and running well.

Regards
