Is it possible to add a POI that displays the icon but no beep or voice announcement. Would like to just look over at the screen and see if there is any ABM or Gas station within a specified distance set in the alert.

When you load the POI files, load the .gpx or .cvs and the .bmp but not the .mp3 if you do not want an audible announcement. The other thing you could do is turn off the audible proximity alerts by going to >tools>settings>proximity points>change>and uncheck the box. Hope this helps.

Post Turning proxmity alerts off using POI Loader

If you use the Garmin POI Loader, you can turn proximity alerts off.

When the POI Loader prompts you for the POI directory, look at the other options. There should be a drop-down with "Express" and "Manual" selection. Select "Manual" and the next screen will allow you to turn proximity alerts off.

Post POI for Macintosh

Because I use a Mac computer and had the older version of the Mac POI loader, it gave me no option to set anything manually. I see the newer software version does so I will have to explore how it works unless anyone who has already mastered it wants to share that information.

It is easy to use, you have 3 menu's to select from:
- load to Garmin,
- load to Mapsource, or
- custom.

Select custom and follow the prompts. It takes a while to do the manual selections.
