In general I like this machine (but then it's the only Sat Nav I have ever used), but the screen is shiny and can be difficult to view in bright sunlight. It can also be temperamental - frequently needing to be re-set. The maps provided with the machine were way out of date, most notably in Germany.

I have to agree.
I've had limited improvement to the reflection problem by using thin tin sheet cut and folded to slide between the holder clip and the body of the 750, folding it forward and over the front so it shades the screen by about 4 cm.
Holes had to be cut to allow acess to the power button and over the loudspeaker to prevent muffling.

All round it is a bit of a fiddle if you are frequently removing the device.

How old is the GPS ?
The maps should not be more than 1 year old at purchase, and then you should have gotten a free update if done within the 30 day period of first using the GPS.

When I bought it in 2005, the manual and other docs showed nothing like that. I can't find map updates anyway even from their shop.

Pointless looking for free updates on a 2005 model GPS as there will be no free maps now.
The price of map updates are too costly these days, and you are better off to update your GPS every 2 to 3 years when the new maps are released (around august each year).
You get a much updated GPS for not much more than the maps themselves.

I agree. The cheap ends only cost some 50 pounds now. I actually got a cheap unit but maybe the old one is too good to be dismissed. The routing searching, setting and especially the re-routing functions are much faster in the iCN750 unit than the cheaper F seris one.
