The Mapsource software did come with the Streetpilot III (the unit cost s fortune at the time "$1450") and was included with the GPS.
As mentioned previously, all updates since have had to have the ver 4 installed before ti would allow any updates, no shortcuts by installing new from and updated map.

A mate and myself just bought 2 new Nuvi 765 GPS 's and the cost of Mapsource is now $195 from Garmin site. Bloody rip off, and the new 2010 map had a fault in the very first turnoff from highway, that it encountered. New 2010 ver map is also $195 complete with faults.

Hi have tried planing a route on Mapsource then sent it to GPS but cant find it anyware.
Which folder or icon does it go into to retrieve it?

Hi Alan,
Your post has set me in the right direction. I too have used MapSource (vers 6.15.6) to create a custom route and then did a "Send to Device" and received the message "Tranasfer Successful" BUT then could not find the Route in my Garmin 765.

Now I tried the two step process which you described, and Yes I went to the My Data section and looked under Import Route from File - all the files I had Sent to the Device (Garmin 765) were there. Selected a file and Imported it. That works well on the 765 too.

The Route now shows up under Custom Routes and can be deleted from there OK. But how do I now get rid of the route Files which I have Sent from Mapsource, but no longer want. Some were experimental and not really useful.

Can anybody help with this,
Regards,
Gordon.

The latest version of MapSource (version 6.16.1) does not supports any old Windows O/S.
It requires Windows XP (with Service Pack 3) or higher.

I don't like the new route layout in the newest version of mapsource, I preferred the colours of the previous version, is there an easy way to go back to the last version?

You can re instal the older version if you have kept a copy, but you will have the bugs that haven't been fixed.

I didn't get a CD with my Nuvi 265 purchase.

Download the mapsource your after but extract the files into a folder on your computer instead of trying to install straight from the downloaded icon.
If you install with the mapsource installer it will work out that there is no previous installed mapsource product.

You have to install using the setup icon in the extracted folder and use windows installer.

To delete files under my data hook GPS up to your computer, navigate to Garmin folder, open file called GPX and delete the contents.

I followed the directions given in an earlier post and installed Mapsource. But when I go to retrieve the map data from my StreetPilot 2730, it tells me that there is NO map loaded on the unit! What is going on?

cheers,
Mike

You have to have the maps on disk or hard drive and registered to you, then you instal the maps that you wish to use.
The Mapsource program only has a basic map (overview) with very little or no real details.
It is a program that allows you to make up your own routes rather than letting your GPS do it for you.

Why do you have to purchase MapSource the first time but then have free access to it every time after that? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

It is the same with ALL commercial software, you have to purchase the original program and then you get the free updates/ bug fixes. Mapsource is no different.

I'm pretty sure you can purchase Mapsource separately, but I received a copy with my garmin Nuvi 255. It is updated regularly; at least it has been so far.

Hi
I was wondering if Mapsource software comes with a new GPS purchase or is it something you need to purchase separately?

My mapsource came with a map update and as I am about to upgrade my computer I contacted Garmin to ask how I could get a version, The directed my to their Base camp, Have only had a quick look at it and it seems pretty much the same, probably a little bit more confusing but than I am use to Mapsource, which I quite like
