Do I load the POI files to the Garmin SD card provided with the maps on it, with the unit or do I need to put the files on another SD card to load them?
When the POI files are loaded are they saved to the unit or does it read off the SD card?
Cheers

I think it's better to put them in poi folder on the unit itself.

Get poiloader software:
- POI Loader for Mac, Ver. 2.1.0 (10.77 MB) January 30, 2009
- POI Loader for Windows, Ver. 2.5.3 (10.10 MB) August 22, 2008

I agree with the previous post. It probably would be better to load the POIs directly into the unit. If you loaded them on the SD card it would read them off the card only when the card was installed but you should be able to do it either way. Hope this helps.

Depending on your quality of SD card it may read slower, but if you have a lot of POI's you'll need to use the SD since you will run out of memory on your unit.

Hi, You should load any POI files using the POILOADER, then the POI files will appear in the POI directory of your unit.

cheers

Hi, I have a similar problem whereby both my SD cards are not recognised for the purpose of downloading waypoints and poi's. I use a card reader with POI loader and that will allow you to do the above. I don't know why the SD cards are not recognised with POI loader program, perhaps that should be addressed to Garmin.

Cheers

Not all Garmin models will allow every file to be read off a SD card, as I was told by a tech staff member at Officeworks. I asked if mine would read mp3s and he said most models they have dont, and he didnt think so, but I tried mine and it read mp3 files.

Depending on the unit, a file called "poi.gpi" is created under "Garmin" folder on flash memory card of my GPSMAP76CSx

Sometimes only a 2 gb card will work with a device, and a 8gb will not because the firmware is different.

You can gain a heap of memory on the unit by deleting all Non English Hep and Voice files, unwanted jpg photo's and the book demo's.

I've just bought a 205WT and I want to download the pubs POI's.
There is not enough room on the unit. Garmin have said the maximum SD card capacity to use is 2GB. I notice there are lots of cards! x2 x4 &
even x6. I just want a reliable 2GB card, any suggestions?

Much thanks.

It depends on the unit. If you can, keep the POIs seperate and in their own folder. It'll make updating them easier later.

I have Garmin Mobile XT (among others) and store the POIs on an SD card in a Garmin\POI directory.
