I've tried several voices, but they all pronounce 'left' as 'rift'. I think it sometimes pronounces 'right' the same way, but it's hard to tell, because 50% of the time the announcement 'Arriving at destination, on ---'), the destination is actually on the opposite side from that stated. I have the latest firmware. Sometimes this thing is handy, but I sure wouldn't bet my life on its instructions - when I can understand them.

Have tried a few different voices, but, ALWAYS return to the voice for my country. Much easier to understand the way words are pronounced, and that is what the GPS is for, not toy voice machine.
Also, remember that the voices are digital and not analogue, and the sounds are slightly mechanical sometimes.

Actually, I tend to either ignore or not hear "the voice for my country". My guess is that's it's a result of years of being "happily married".
I find the aussie girl makes me smile, therefore I hear it better.
What puzzles me is, there have been loads of surveys done about regional accents in the UK, some accents we don't trust (e.g. Scouse) and some we do (especially Geordie). Surely it would be far better to produce satnav voices with Geordie accents for the UK than the bland current offering.
Obviously I'm not talking about using an accent so strong that it would be hard to understand. I know similar research on accents has been performed in India and I would be very surprised if similar research had not been done in most countries, especially the USA, therefore the same should apply in other places too.

Love the Serena voice on my nuvi 255W but when I loaded it onto my 2555LM it showed as uncompatible audio!

How do I fix this?

Seems that my newer Nuvi 2555 has less voices than my old 1490. Really liked the British female voice- seems unavailable for the 2555? Odd!

When I use the Dave Zabriskie voice, I get double commands that are often counteractive. For example I get 'Turn left, you're gonna wanna turn right here". It's funny sometimes but not good if I'm going somewhere new. Any one else have this bug?

In response to the GUEST poster saying he was confused by Dave Zabriskie saying "Turn left, you're gonna wanna turn right here" he means at the next turn, go left, then you want to take an immediate right. It makes perfect sense. It took us a while to catch on to Dave, but now we love him...it's like traveling with an old friend. We had him on our old Garmin and just replaced ours with a new Garmin...thankfully we found Dave is still available! WHEW! Sadly, though, he doesn't make all the funny comments he used to...at least we don't think so. Anyone else notice this on the newest version of Dave Zabriskie?

Garmin voices are no longer available on their site.

Is there another place to get them from?

I updated from my Nuvi 500 to the Nuvi2589 (due to lack of space for the newer maps Sad ) and use the Dr. Nightmare voice and moved the voice file over from the 500 to the 2589 I noticed that he no longer makes all the extra comments and the recalculating(Let me consult my magic book) that he does with the 500. Since it appears Garmin no longer has the voices and vehicles available, I'd say it may have been something with the firmware on the newer devices that the older voices no longer work as well as they used to Sad
