I have found that 500 meters for school zones and 150 meters for speed cameras work well. Red light camera warnings aren't of much use, since I wouldn't run a red light regardless if it was camera protected or not.
Accident black spot alerts - 400 m
Low Bridges - 225 m
Mobile speed camera - 250 m
Red Light Camera - 150 m
School Zones - 200 m
Fixed Speed Camera - 150 m
( all are available here: POI Updates)
I drive a truck so the low bridge warning is good for me all though I had to get rid of all heights above my truck as the "false" warnings were driving me nuts.
Another thing I did was add custom audio alerts to the files i.e. "red light camera" or for school I have just "school ahead" but am going to change that to simply "school"
Hello, I have a 760 Also but cant find anywhere to set the distance?...How do you go about it?
Thanks
You can set distance in POI loader (Garmin) when you are uploading POI in to the device or leave it "auto" (how I do)
If the distance is specified in the POI loader, all POIs will be set to that distance.
GPX files can set a proximity distance on a POI by POI basis. With a GPX file one can set different proximity distances for each camera speed.
I use a formula to calculate the distance based on speed and reaction time and it gives me the following values. The idea is that at the worst case the driver will be at 40% + 5Km/h above the rated speed and needs to decrease the speed to the rated value within a given number of seconds (8secs).
