Hello people.I have installed lots of POI's in my System.. its great !!(Kenwood KNA-G430AU)Just need to know how the the System know that to bring up an alert when I drive past a Speed Camera and Red Light Camera and not for a Bunnings warehouse and so forth... I can't seem to get the alert to come on when I drive past a School Zone...Are their special keywords which the .csv file must be named? This is what I have mine named as..Red_Light_Camera.csvSchool_Zone.csvSpeed_Camera.csv
James,
Cant seem to get an answer from anyone regarding updating POI's on the KNA-G430.
If you have already done it a number of times, maybe you might post the required instructions on this forum?
There is precious little info on this site about how to actually go about doing it.
Do you update the existing SD card?
Or do you have to update a blank SD card? Do you then reinsert the original SD card?
I know the moderator has some basic instructions but for a newbie they are more confusing than helpful. Seems like everyone has questions but no answers are posted.
skaposi,
I hope you have already solved this given it has been around some time, but if not what you need to do is download the Garmin versions of the POIs you want to an empty or new folder and in the csv format.
Download and install a copy of the POI loader and use this program to load the POI csv files on to an SD card (2gb or less in size). The POI loader will reformat the csv files to ones suitable for download on to the Kenwood Unit. Use an SD card that is not your navigation software card so that you don't risk corrupting the Nav files. Install the SD card in the KNA-G430 and turn the system on. The KNA-G430 will detect that there are new custom POIs to down load to its memory and ask if you want to download them. Be aware that it will overwrite any other custom POIs you have on the system. You also need to adjust the proximity settings from the menu page Settings>General >Proximity Alerts to ensure the the Audio,Visual and types of alerts are on - seems to be a limited selection of the types you can select

I guess you mean my favorites?
If so, how do I copy these from my unit to a SD card so I can add them to the new ones I am uploading (i.e. so I dont lose them?)
Uploading POI on KNA-G430 - overwriting custom POI's

please decribe the custom POI's that will be lost?
Hi Pandion2
As instructed...
I downloaded the Garmin POI loader from their website
& ran it with the #.CSV files I got from this site
It reformatred the multiple csv files to one file (*.gpi)
(is this correct?)
I put the single file on an empty 1GB SD card
I then installed the SD card in the KNA-G430 and turned the system on.
It did nothing!!
I then tried the same file in a GARMIN directory - again nothing
I then put the file into the GARMIN directory on an old map SD card
- still nothing
Hi I have a DNX7200 and have tried exactly what you have done and my system does not even recognise the SD cardwith the POI files has been inserted into the unit. I have also tried cycling the power to the DNX7200 but it still does not look at the card. When I re insert the MAP SD card, maps are loaded but the personal POI file in my data is empty. Did you ever work out a solution to this problem. appreciate your assistence.
Loading POI's onto DNX 7200 unit with imbedded Garmin GPS
Hi Deanomarino31, did you ever get the POI files loaded onto your Kenwood unit. I have tried multiple methods and so far have been unsuccessful. I would appreciate if you could please let me know if you have come up with a solution?
Turn your system on without an sd card inserted, after it loads the gps screen insert the card it will then ask you if you want to copy the custom poi into memory
I tried as you suggested and turned the unit on with no MAP SD card in the unit. The device showed an empty map as expected. I then inserted the SD car with the POI file on it and the system didn't even register that the card was plugged in. So unfortunately it did not work. The file format I have on the 16MB SD card is -
Folder called - GARMIN
Subfolder called - POI
File within POI subfolder called - Redlight_Cameras.gpi
If you have any other suggestions this would be greatly appreciated..
