I have copied my US maps (Navman's SD Card) to a completely different SD card (it is even larger size card) and the US maps work. So this seems to rule out a MBR lock. I have also tried editing the "part num" as listed earlier on the forum but this does not work for me I still get no map data. Still playing with it, I will post any finding I come up with.

The F20 will only accept Navman cards. You can not copy the cards.

Hi People, has any one had any luck with the maps ?
Anyway , I have so here goes , if you have downloaded the maps, there should be 1 directory called navman and a text file called source, now follow the very simple instructions below, I think you guys were making the job harder than it actually is !! This does 100% work and for you info, I used a micro sd card (2gb) in a sd card adaptor, so I don't think the type of SD card has alot to do with anything either
The only simple secret to make your device recognise any sd card as it is the original is that we copy the "NAVMAN" folder for example in the sd card as also the file Source.txt.
Then you must edit the Source.txt file and there where it says the Par NUM: SW007185B for example, we copy the part number of your device which is located at the backside of the device written on a grey tab...not the barcode..
then you save the file and have a nice day!!!
The device checks this number when you power on and it will recognise it as it is the internal memory or something like this

FYI My F20 has SV000274 but no letter on the end. Seems a bit random for different units from what I am reading so I'd be pretty surprised about billy8's fix working. Far too simple. Billy8 doesn't really say exactly what he can now do. Just states: the instructions I gave do 100% work.
Anyway for the price of about $10 i'm going to by an SD card and try.

Previously I have done a little research and everyone says that the F20 can't be unlocked like most gps units. You can download the maps for free from bittorrent sites etc but no one I can find has worked out how to load them.

My solution is to pay the money. NOT to Navman though. I'll explain. I want Western Europe maps and they cost $200 Australian dollars. For that sort of rediculous money I can by another different GPS unit that CAN be unlocked. I'll find maps and unlock software before I buy one. Then both me and my missus will have a GPS and she won't have to keep borrowing mine!!!!

Anyway if I can get working maps on mine I'll do that first, it's just, I don't like my chances.

Hi just looking for Europe maps for my F20
You guys seem to be having problems so do you not recommend that I spend £50 on Europe mapping only to find that it wont load?
Thanks

If you buy from Navman or legit reseller -> no problem you will get the encryption key that comes with maps and should install no worries.

I speak for everyone and perhaps I shouldn't but we all have the problem of trying to get something for free, we have been thwarted and hence we are not happy.....beautiful poetic justice. Navman techs must read these posts with tears of joy in their eyes. In all these years no one has cracked it. Seems odd that the same theory is not used in all subsequent models of Navman and other GPS sellers. They could make a fortune in selling maps and map upgrades if EVERYONE had to buy them.

Anyway I was the "guest" that posted about one post earlier. I bought SD card, loaded the european maps and got excited. I could select and load them. However, went to select an address and unit said "no map data" same as other people have mentioned.

The above technique included billy8's tip for changing the "source.txt" file, which when you think about it was a pretty stupid idea. A couple of people pointed out the (ill)logic of that tip earlier.

Keep hunting punters. But I doubt we will crack it...... I now have to buy a cheap GPS that can be unlocked and comes with ample supplies of free maps on the internet. Any suggestions guys and girls?

With the cost of Navman maps, and being a year out of date (new roads) by the time you them, you are better off buying a new GPS with latest maps and get the latest hardware also. The hardware is getting cheaper all the time in all brands.

have heard reports that if you put the maps on just any SD card they won't work. I think you need to purchase them already on a card that Navman uses then works fine

Hi folks

The same problem you have, was my problem as well. I had an F20 in DACH version. For our vacation, I wanted to have the maps from Spain as well. Due to a card price of 90Euros, I decided to buy a second F20 unit with European maps for 106Euros. By the way, the pricing is not explainable for me. It's similar to printers and ink.
Now I had an original Europe card. I made a security copy including MBR(without knowing, if this is really necessary).
In the European version, the copied card works like the original one. The F20 DACH version reads the maps, but cannot navigate with it. Both versions have the newest and latest firmware.
Hardware is not the reason for the different behavior. The internal card is the reason. If I interchange this, the behavior changes with the card.

Hope this helps a bit

First I got a 1gb SD card (takeMS) and I wrote the serial numbers written on the back of the card. There is normally more than one but it this case it was a 8 digit number like F1180560 728. Then copy to the SD card root the downloaded stuff: folder named Navman and one txt file named source.txt. In the txt file just replace after Part Num: =the serial from your SD card.
When you start the GPS it starts to load all info from the SD and you see right away if you got it.

Hope it will work with you

This does work! I can see the countries and choose which country to display (But I am not sure if I can see the map because I'm not in Italy for example) but when I search for a road I can get nothing up on the screen! It says "no map details" someone who has this problem too!? I have downloaded Navman europe.rar file and just like Mikuni I change the part number in the source.txt to the same number as writen on the back of the SD card and then I can see the country names in the Navman map folder on the GPS...

If you pay £50 you would be robbed. Navman sell maps for about £40.

F20 maps last released November 2008 are out of date (New roads) a Call to Navman advised that no further maps will be released for this model.

Some support they have for legacy equipment, no wonder Google dropped Telemaps.

Gidday, Just been reading this slowly growing thread and i agree that navman have done a great job of protecting their maps.

Unfortunly i have been unable to slove the issues as well (By the way i have a iCN320 with NZ maps and receving the same no map data available when trying to navgate).

However i do know that you guys are on the right track with several of the posts refering the MMC-ID and it being matched to a file within the card. I suspect that this is probably the may reason we are getting the same errors but there maybe other checks as well.

What i do know is that either this has been completely overlooked or just not posted on here is that under the secert menu (Menu + Power) is a value called Test Flag. Currently mine returns the value of 10001111 this seems to indicate possibly up to 8 security measures or possible a mixture of security and other checks such as map data curruption checks

if your able to work together you might find out what each of these bits relate to and find that some of you are getting the same error for different reasons and with a bit of info sharing may find yourselfs one step closer

or as above meantioned you could just go out and buy another map card, my map card is a valued navman card that has been corrupted and seeing i never used my navman much i really dont want to pay for another one. and so it has change into trying to get it to work the sake of something to do
