Same thing happened to mine. Garmin gave me a new cable. That didn't make a difference. Went through reset procedure. No difference. I then just started fiddling with the position of the cable in the socket and it started working. If it sags down in the socket it won't work. So either keep it tight in against the dashboard or have the cable exiting over the device. Should work!

You guys need to check coverage map in your area. I was with the Garmins tech support trying to fix same problem without success. They even sent me replacement unit, but brand new unit did not get traffic signal. When I drove a few miles out of my house I got the signal. I checked the coverage map of my area, it turned that there was no coverage, I quit and sent new unit back.

I am having the same problem. Garmin sent me a new cable but it does the same thing so can't of been the cable to begin with. I regularly update mine firmware, so can't be that the software needs updating as says all is up to date. Not sure what else to try other than to buy a new one. Mine Garmin is just over a year old and works fine other than the traffic feed is not working as it should. Some mornings it works fine, but come the afternoon it comes up with the error of "connected cable does not support this device".
Any suggestions that can fix this would be great?

All,

I have the same problem with my Garmin 2497 LTE. It is 1 year old and gives the same message " connected cable does not support this device, connect the correct cable. But I am using the same cable that unit came with. I called Garmin Tech Support and said if it is not the software issue, you have the latest software 5.3 or 8.5. Mine I upgraded to 8.5 from their website Garmin Express, and still have the problem. Technician said then it the port connectivity issue, the mini d-sub on the cable or the unit itself, we charge $79 and send you a refurbished one. The unit itself was $120!! or you get 20% off from a new upgraded model. I think this is BS.
Garmin used to be a reliable device and much more friendly to its customers. Does anybody know how to solve the problem, or troubleshoot and pin point to the cable, connector? Device works fine without the cable, but then you can't charge the unit.
Thank you

Post Garmin 2597 - Wrong traffic information

At first my Garmin 2597 was excellent. Now it gives me constant false road closures and bad directions. (e.g. "leave motorway at next exit - at roundabout take 2nd exit" which takes me straight back onto the motorway it just told me to leave. Many time it tells me the motorway is closed when it isn't. I have no trust in this device any more.

Post NUVI 1490 - No connectivity message when using satellite cab

I have a Nuvi 1490. I'm having the same problem, getting the 'no connection' message. I haven't used my Nuvi for about 3 weeks, and then had the problem last Sunday (Nov/6/2016). It really freaked me out 'cause I was out jaunting and wasn't sure I could find my way home without it. What's going on? And how can this be fixed?

Got a nuvi 2508 worked fine for 18 months then an error message saying first "unit not charging" then "traffic cable not compatible with this device".
I have bought a new cable from Halfords for £8.99 and problem seems to have been solved. Off on a 300 mile journey tonight so will report back if any problems.

Post Cable not compatible for traffic

My Garmin 2597 worked fine for over a year. I also spent an extra $100 to get a Europe map which will ONLY work on this one device, so I now have over $250 invested into this device. A couple of weeks ago I got an error "cable not compatible for traffic". Nothing has changed on my device, so I updated the firmware and OS on the Nuvi 2597 to the latest and greatest. Still get the same error message, so I spent another $20 on a new TA20 cable ... still get the same error message. No clue how to fix now, and I don't want to buy another device because I would also have to buy another Europe map. Seems these products have planned obsolescence to work one day and then not work the next, or the quality sucks. If anyone has any idea on how to reset a Nuvi2597 with lifetime maps and traffic to work again please post. I am on the latest and great 8.5 OS.

I have the same issue. One day the Garmin 2599lmt-d worked properly and the next it traffic stopped working - it's a real pain as I spend many day driving. Garmin have been really unhelpful! They said: "It was the cable". They would send one, but then decided not to. They suggested, as it's 24 months old, there will charge around £60 for a replacement. It's a bit like a sales patter they have going on. Would you believe nobody esle has ever had the same problem.
The most annoying part is driving along and the message coming up on the screen when you need the map to be showing at a roundabout or junction.
So, left wondering, pay the cash and get another 60 day guarantee or ditch and run off to another brand?

Your GPS does not have traffic receiver in it. LM stands for Life time Maps udate. If it LMT then T is for traffic.

I found the hidden reset. From the settings, select traffic (2nd page), then select the country and then the 3 bar symbol (top left). This gives you a reset option. After running reset I got traffic updates about 2 minutes later.
Awesome advice! Worked like a charm. I have the Garmin Nuvi 2595LM so not even the same device and your little trick worked perfect. Thank you

Post Traffic no longer working?

Users get the message that they need to attach a compatible traffic receiver cable. This only happens after online updating with Webupdater. Garmin has acknowledged a bug in the update that now prevents the unit from receiving both digital and analog traffic data. What's worse, Garmin reportedly will not fix the bug. So if you update, you lose traffic functionality. If you don't update, you can't get the current maps. Planned obsolescence?

Post Incompatible cable error

Hi,
I too have the incompatible cable message on my nuvi 2529lmt. It's nearly two years old and I have tried two new cables which made no difference, spoke to Garmin and they told me that its possibly the unit and I would have to pay 70 quid. I replied that trading standards say it should work for a reasonable length of time. Two years is not as far as I'm concerned. I don't pay £130 for something to have to replace as its faulty. Plus it says "Lifetime traffic" so there for should last lifetime.

I have the "not compatible with traffic" error message too on my Nuvi 2597 with software 8.6. However, this is only with a new Garmin cable which I bought for my second car. The original cable in my other car works fine. So clearly it is not a software or firmware problem. The new cable is identical to the original with the Garmin logo on it. After reading all the negative experiences here, I dunno if it is worth fighting with Garmin over it. Maybe I will live with no traffic updates in that car.

"the issue" seems most likely related to the soldering on the usb receptacle being cracked and so manipulating the cable can intermittently restore or disconnect the 'traffic service" as it engages/disengages the contact.

however, ive noticed that the 'traffic' cable is not even necessary, simply remove the cable and it works just fine (at least that is the experience on my nuvi 2598 LMT), so this is a software glitch that is made visible by a faulty cable connection. kudos to Garmin for the never-timeout on that erroneous 'error' dialog, that is so damn helpful...

so the usb port just isnt that solid and cracks after a couple years of normal usage.. this is a common problem.. on you tube are videos on how to resolder that connection, its not for the faint of heart but ill be trying that once this hw/sw problem effectively bricks my garmin..

Post NAUGHTY GARMIN PEOPLE - Garmin Nuvi 2599 LMT D

Purchased new Garmin Nuvi 2599 LMT D, just after 18 months of use and I get the dreaded cable message. After conducting hours of research found that it is not the cable, the micro USB port used to charge the device is not loose in any way. The device has been updated fully via Garmin Express to the latest update.
Spoke to Garmin customer support who are more than happy to charge to me £56.00 to return my device and provide me with a refurbished and fully tested device with a 90 day warranty and then state they can't guarantee that the same problem will re-occur!
There are clearly issues with this device that Garmin know about but will not admit to it. In the interests of good customer relationships/business sense surely they could provide a solution.
