I gotta admit, I'm struggling to make much sense of it all. Maybe I just have to persevere with it. I've spent days changing, adding, and updating POI's, and thought I'd play with map source, but I'm nearly a dribbling mess now.
kenevel, sounds like you are trying to link POI's with Mapsource.
NO CAN DO !
Mapsource program allows you to ADD " waypoints " to a route that you wish to take. You then link all the waypoints together and Mapsource calculates the route and overlays in on your chosen route.
You then save the file with whatever you wish to name it, then SEND it directly to your GPS from Mapsource via cable connected to your GPS.
Just treat Mapsource as a completely different program/control etc to your GPS.
Mapsource allows you to map out the roads that YOU wish to travel and not allow the GPS to take you in whatever direction it happens to choose.
e.g. If you let the GPS pick the route for you, from say Sydney to Brisbane, it would take you up the Pacific Hwy, BUT, you may wish to go via Tamworth, Armidale and back through Coffs Harbour.
Your GPS wont do this for you automatically, and that is where Mapsource is on it's own. You go where you chose and save / send it to the GPS and keep it there for future use.
I believe Mapsource has been discontinued, taking its place is BaseCamp.
Updates still available, and think the program is for sale. It used to come with GPS originally, and, Basecamp is nowhere near as good as Mapsource unfortunately.
For those who wish to get Mapsource:
Mapsource is available as a program with map data and therefore the licence for the map. If you already have a Garmin GPS/Nuvi, you can by the 'Trip and Waypoint Manager' (Mapsource without the Map) which is a lot cheaper(AU$39). Once you have the program on your PC(only), the next time you update your navigator's map, half way through the process there is an advanced tab on the bottom left of the window, when you click on the button an option to update GPS/update maposource/update both is available. Select Update both, after you do this your Trip and Waypoint Manager will have the same maps as on your Garmin Navigator and is full Mapsource.
