GPS: Garmin Nuvi 3790t

I found that if you start driving it locks on quicker.
This may be a coincidence, but it may also be that by changing direction you give the unit a better view of the satellites to enable lockon.
But even so 10-20 mins seems ridiculously long....unless you are in a tunnel or a heavily wooded area.

I have had a couple of instances where the unit would not lock on after waking up. I found if I rebooted it would lock on within a minute or less and I was back in business.

In addition to this the unit has spontaneously rebooted a few times while driving along. On each occasion it simply restarted and took up the route where it left off. Functionally not much more than an annoyance but it gives me concern that there might be something wrong with the hardware.

The latest firmware will hopefully address these issues but if either of them happen again I'll be sending it back to Garmin.

I find the new device always guides me out off main road...

I have found this as well, last night i had an idea where i was going but it decided to take me the in the wrong direction that i needed to go, it took me around the back roads bypassing the main roads.
This would have added an extra 15min to the trip.
Not very good at all.

Hope they fix it soon

I had the same matter in Canada. The unit look so good and nice but software turn down the unit. I also know this unit does not support custom icons to show on map, as explained here.
Hope Garmin will release new firmware soon.

new update:

1. Screen freeze (dead couple times.)
My 3790T has been died for 3 times. It means that the screen freezes during driving. No any response whatever how to touch screen.
Only way have to do to hold power button to turn off unit then turn on again.

2. It long time to recalculating
It is very upset about the slow recalculation when the unit recalculates the route. If you decide to change new road, the 3790t will recalculate a new route with long time taking.

Last night while using the view map function, the maps went black, the rest of the other visible displays were still there eg. time etc, i selected a location and to navigate to, it calculated the route and the map display was still black.

Had to power down the unit and then back on for it to wok again

From all the problems that seem to be happening with the 3790t I will stay with the 765 until faults rectified. Have any of you guy's spoken/emailed Garmin re your problems? Would be interested to know your outcomes.

Emailing Gramin about faults ... extremely humorous!

Have spent coutless hours on the phone trying to get 3790T issues resolved. Never get the same consultant, have to restate the problem each and every time, get asked the same questions which have been answered 3 times before and and on the same email trail.

After 4 attempts they stopped responding!

Updating new experience:
Just updating the map to new version which is AUS & NZ 2010.20. And Drive test the new map, I found the previous problem about route has been fixed.
Previous map route problem was that NAV always guided the car to out off main road (making shout cut), and drive into schoole zone and pass lots of roundabout.

It is fixed by updating new map. So far feel good.

It is good to know the route problem is fixed. I have also just updated to the new map a couple of hours ago. Will take it for a test drive in a couple of days. Yesterday, while still on the old map, I was driving and there was an error I never come across before on both my nuvi 760 and this 3790t. On the GPS map, the magenta route clearly shows that I have to turn in about 500m but the top left corner indicator says next turn is about 7km away. Moreover, whenever one nears a turn, the voice would tell you so. Last night, no voice indicator and I decided to keep driving on without following the magenta route. Soon after, the voice says recalculating and redirect me back onto that magenta route. So in case anyone of you experience this, always follow the magenta route on the map is probably the best bet. Anyway, I hope this map update would also resolve this problem. I wish I remember where that happened because it would be good to drive through that area to try out again.

Updating:

To make all of icons work on your 3790T, you have to make sure that all of icons are 8 bit bmp.

I use Photoshop to resize Icons to 8 bit bmp.

Thank friends from here, I get a clue by reading their experience. So, another error is fixed.

Why could the latest model 3790t not accept the RGB 24 bit bmp?

Fashion design, light, slim.
Speed alert, drive test, find it is accurate, even not on the main road.
Speed meter display is very similar as car speedometer, doesn't like my old one which shown speed is 100km, but car's speedometer already pointed at 105-110km.

Have the same issue that bmp icons dont show on the screen for school zones. Icons for cameras are appearing though.
Any thoughts?

Anyone who has solved this problem? I´ve noticed the same on my unit and I think it has something to do with the scaling. If I zoom in on the position for the cameras i can see a very smal icon - 1x1mm or less.
