GPS: OziExplorer

I have been using a Sony Android tablet for off-road navigation (using OziExplorer for Android). While the application works a treat, and is easy to see and read, the upgrade to KitKat has all but broken the unit...

Suddenly no third party user applications can write to the SD card. This way, I lost my track files for the last 6 months, since the application did not tell me that my trips were no longer being recorded. And since it displayed the track tail (because that is a system file) I never realised... Fortunateely I figured out by trial and error that I could save the track file when I set the data path to the internal memory rather than the SD card.

But the bit that has me stumped -- After 15 seconds of inactivity, it switches off the screen (presumably to conserve battery power, or simply to irritate the living daylights out of me). I will change the default setting to 30 mins, but if the unit is switched off and back on, the setting does not stick and I'm back to 15 seconds...

Please, please, please tell me there is a simply way to get the screen shut-off time setting to stick, because I am considering downgrading the operating system back to the previous installation (if that is even possible).

You don't give details of your Sony tablet. I have been using a variety of Android devices with OziExplorer for Android and, apart from a few annoying quirks of this version of Ozi, it works fine with Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat and Lollipop. More detail needed Wink
