I also used the VMS 700 HD (for 4WD or topo mapping) until the unit's battery died on me... I did not use the built-in MemoryMap-based application, but rather OziExplorer CE (which also came installed on the unit) because I had existing maps and track files. The easiest way for me to generate POI files was to do it on the laptop using the Windows OziExplorer application as waypoints and then import these as POIs on the VMS.
