Anyone know if the Garmin operating system has an upper limit on the capacity of the SDHC cards for external storage? Tried using a 32GB card on my Nuvi 650 and it wouldn't recognize it.

When I inquired re the same thing with Garmin I was told the upper limit the unit would recognize was a 4GB card. Hope this helps.

Thanks - thought that might be the case, but was hoping there might be a firmware upgrade available that would allow for higher capacity.

i found the more you have on the card the slower the unit is

anybody tryed using partition magic or somthing to split up a larger card maybe the unit would recognise partitioned drives the same way older pc's did
just a thought Idea

Different models have different capacities, 16GB for nuvi series for example. StreetPilot c300 and i-Series units do not currently support the SDHC (High Capacity) cards. All devices that support SDHC (High Capacity) cards will support up to class 10 cards. This is from Garmin:

nuvi series - 16GB
zumo 400 and 500 - 4GB
zumo 220 and 600 - 16GB
dezl series - 16GB
StreetPilot c500 - 4GB
StreetPilot c300 - 2GB
StreetPilot i-Series - 2GB
StreetPilot 7200 / 7500 - 2GB

thats correct. my Garmin local rep told me to load only maps that I need onto the card, otherwise it would slow down the unit even if you do not enable the map but have it sitting in the device.
