Can anyone tell me how often maps are updated for Garmin in Australian models. They seem terrible. They use Whereis and the maps are so dated - whereas Google maps seem so much more up to date...

Just received new repacment 255W from Garmin with latest maps, and my local roundabout which has been there at least 3 years is still NOT shown.

Nuvi 255 is an outdated model, been on the shelves for a while i suspect, suggest you use the Garmin map update service and download the latest one.

I also recieved a new 255w to replace 260w with the new 2011.2 map and the new intersection that has been finished for at least 2 years is not on it. Maybe next year...

At the moment (August 2011) at Dick Smith and The Good Guys you get free Lifetime maps on selected Garmins (eg Garmin nuvii 1260, 1450T are two.) Saves $189. you can download updates up to 4 times a year.

Garmin updates to new roads are 2 to 3 years late. i wrote to Gamin about a new roundabout near us that had been open two years, recieved a reply thanking me for the info. It still took two more Garmin updates for it to appear.
