I have a Nuvi 855. Is it possible to plan a route for a long road trip on my computer in advance of the trip, then import it to my Nuvi?

The answer is yes, but you need a program called MapSource. Make your own routes to cover areas/towns YOU wish to go through, and then load onto GPS prior to trip.

Mapsource can be difficult to obtain. My copy came with a map update

Some people have purchased it see forum https://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/topic/2688.html

I am changing my computer and require a new copy of mapsource and they directed me to Base map.

Have had a quick look at base camp but think I prefer Mapsource.
