I have had this tom tom for 4 years and hardly used it. The last time i used it was 3 mths ago. Now when I turn it on, it will show to insert card etc but no menu comes up. When connected to the PC it shows on the TomTom screen that it is connected and appears as a drive in myComputer. However,TomTom home will not recognise it.
I have tried resetting several times already.

I'm not sure if this will help but I had the same problem ages ago; although mine went because I was mucking around with it too much. In any case I let the unit go flat and then hooked it up to my PC with Tomtom home and it updated the firmware on the unit.. I cant remembeer at that stage if I had backed it up or not?

You may even want to try and hold the on/off button for around 30sec and see if it resets to default
