Just wondering how many people are using the voice guidance on Nokia phones with the Nokia Maps app, and whether it's useful.

I have a tendency to only use Nokia Maps (without voice) when I'm walking somewhere.. Really useful then but I can stare at the screen at those times. Can't imagine using the voice directions while you're walking along a street.. You'd definitely get a few odd looks..

Yes it is!, I use it all the time in Canada and all the maps (world-wide) are free!! and OVI maps has free voice guidance with street names as well. Only little complaint I have is the voice guidance is a bit aggressive because it says the instructions bit too fast, but it is still easy to follow.

Also, there's a walking guidance mode and i would recommend that you use ear buds because it is voice guided too, but there's also beeps and vibrations instead of actual voice.

I agree with Basketball. I have just bought a Nokia X6 and the sat nav is so good Im selling my Navman. The voice alerts are good (but are fast as basketball says) The speed camera alert is just a bleep, but it does warn you if you are going too fast, visually and audibly.

One good point is you can set the speed warning to be slightly over. eg you can do 36mph in a 30 zone before it warns you, or 80 in a 70 zone for example.

Nokia has been well known for its functionality,
however, the speaker has been overwhelmed by Sony Erricson.

So far I have been using Nokia E71, E72, N900, and N97 for GARMIN GPS,
the voice are just okay. Acceptable is the word I can describe.

If they could use SE mobile phone speaker, that would be great Very Happy

I have tested the voice guidance on my Nokia N97

Nokia offers lots of different languages. You can choose the one(s) sute(s) your need.

After you installed the voice guidance, your Nokia works as good as a dedicated GPS unit.

Actually I think the voice guidance on nokia maps is one of the best out there...

it is very human in speech and sentence structure...not as annoying as perhaps garmin or tom tom can be... It has better language ability in this sense
