Garmin Nuvi 660 charging problem

Hi, my Garmin Nuvi 660 has been working well. However, I tried to charge it today and instead of seeing the lightning streak to indicate it was charging, I saw a symbol showing the device connected to a computer. Any advice as to what this means and how I get rid of it to carry on charging?

I guest you use mini usb connection to charge your GPS. For nuvi 660, if you use mini usb to charge your unit, it is still charging your GPS with showing connected to a computer pic. The problem is that you cannot use you gps during charging.

To avoid this problem, you have to use original (Genuine) car recharger to charge your gps. In my case, I tried universial brand mini usb car recharger to my nuvi 660. However, I cannot use it during charging battery.

Yes my 660 did this early this year 2009, and i sent it to Garmin service department and they changed the software as it was not available on line and charge was $120 and now is perfect. Also download all your data to the computer before sending it back to you then can reupdate all way points etc.

That sounds like a rediculously high charge just to be able to use it when charging !

Probably it was a full Li-Io battery replacement.
They are not cheap to replace (incl. postage) and can only be done at Garmin. Sad
