In relation to your maps, I believe that you can have up to 3 maps on your GPS, they are named gmapsupp.img & gmapprom.img on your gps and gmapsupp.img on your sd card. All Maps are installed in the :\Garmin directory on either the GPS or SD card. If the maps are getting to big for your GPS, try using Map Source to transfer the maps but only transfer the state that you want. Once done rename them to the above.
What I have done is I have split all of my maps such as :
City Navigator
Garmin Topo
Contours
Shonky
T4A
Oz Topo
Into their respective states and copied them on to my PC. I have also combined Contours, Shonky, T4A & Oz Topo into one img file and stored that.
This way depending on which state you are in you can copy them over to your GPS & SD card and rename them to the above, this should cut down the size for you.

Greg, thanks for your advice.
It's good to have the maps split and separated as you suggest in your post. Will try..
Are the favourites destinations stored in GPX folder? and all with .gpx extension?

On my SD card I have a folder named (Map) (no 's'). In that folder I have about 5 gmapsupp.img files. I renamed each file per map name. eg Australia.img, Israel.img, USA2012.img etc.
