I get speed alerts for say 70km when the true speed limit is 80km, this speed limit is also shown on the map. Is this a garmin error or does it come from the speed alert POI?

I have noticed a lot of times I get a 60km speed limit in many 50km zones.

The GPS only displays what has been entered into the POI file. The data entered into the 70 speed csv or gpx files would have to be incorrect.

The speed number it posts on the left side of the screen that looks just like a speed limit sign is coming from the map, and i see them incorrect all the time, usually only off by about 5 mph, probably because the speed limit changed since they updated the map...

This is one of major reason I like my 765. I can at any time look and see what the correct speed limit is. It works really well in the USA. In Canada I don't get the speed limit indication very often.

Mine is on the money most of the time but I notice that if there has been recent road changes, sometimes it is off but I suspect that was the old limit. I wonder what a cop would say if you got pulled over for speeding and and you could use the excuse that your gps showed an incorrect speed limit.

Roger99, I don't think I would be silly enough to try that one on, could aggravate and cost more.

It is POI file speed setting issue clearly.

I think the speed limit comes from the map because its a feature that was there before I installed any POI's. Its also a feature they promote. It also displays speed limits for highways and Interstates.

A friend actually tried this, and it worked. It wasn't a GPS, instead it was a standalone speed-monitor. But hey, it's worth a shot.

I think it is the map feature which is wrongly entered by the map data team or not being updated.
beacause I has garmin mobile XT as well it shows the speed limit correctly most of the time and chnge it to the another speed limit within 10 to 20 meter of passing the speed change but in some roads it is showing the diferrent speed limit either 10km high or 10km low.
even though my map is the latest and the latest softwre
