How about we saying it depends on how much space specified by your GPS manufacturer as the maximum limit your system can ACTUALLY process?

I have over 50,000 POI's on my Garmin 265W and its working ok. Hope that helps.

Think it only depend on the memory size, but I have heaps more then 50,000 extra POI's and heaps of room left yet. Just be careful as to how you load them as you will have the GPS beeping every 20 metres.

I posted this once before but if you want to be sure you have the maximum amount of room for POI's you can gain a substantial amount of room by deleting all the voice/text/help files in other languages. They can be added back in later if you need to do so.

Do the POI files load into the internal memory or can they be forced onto a memory card? That would make a huge difference in how much one can hold.

You can use either internal or card to store extra points of interest.
Internal preferred as it will hold more than you will need.
