Below I gone through my actions in trying to create a MapSource file using the Garmin POILoader.exe:

- POILoaderforMac_210.dmg POI Loader for Mac, Ver. 2.1.0 (10.77 MB) January 30, 2009
- POILoaderforWindows_253.exe POI Loader for Windows, Ver. 2.5.3 (10.10 MB) August 22, 2008

-------------------------------------------
POI Loader

Save options
- Garmin device
- Mapsourse (selected)
- Custom
Next
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Select name for POI file (xxxxxx)
Next

Select folder where files can be found (xxx/xxx/xxxx/xxx)
Next

Computer displays the following message:-

Congratulations you have successfully installed etc. etc.

Unfortunately I don't know where the created file is hiding. My first thoughts are that it would be in the same location as the csv files used in the POI loader. Unfortunately this is not the case. Any ideas?

Many thanks
John

If you're using vista you should find the file in the following directory :
C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\CustomPOIs

Open mapsource, go to File>Open> (select the file you want ...should be a .gpx file)

POIs are displayed on the map.

Hi! j
Unfortunatly the created files are in the 'GPI' format which does not seem to be able to be opened by MapSourse,

Hi John
What I think you need to do is to save your files as .gpx, I am assuming you are importing them as csv files, this can be done with POI Edit: https://www.gps-data-team.com/convert/poiedit.php
Then open each .gpx file in mapsource and then save the map source file as (for example main.gdb).
This is a long winded way but it works.
Once you have opened the first gpx file you can edit the properties of all of the poi's by hightlighting them them going to waypoint properties to allocate a waypoint symbol and a place to save the waypoints under your waypoint categories. Once you have done this with the first gpx file save map source as main.gdb. Then open your next gpx file do the same re properties etc, then hightlight all of the waypoints and hit copy, then reopen main.gdb and hit paste then resave main.gdb, you ill need to do this for every gpx file that you have.
Regards
Greg

I have sent an email to Garmin Support in hopes that they might shed some light on why this option is in POI Loader but doesn't work with Mapsource.

All these poi that you save are actually waypoints. Is there any way to show them as anything else?
