I am new to the world of GPS and this forum. Can anyone explain to me in detail how to download and install the voice warnings to accompany the red light and speed trap POI's? Do I need to be a paid, registered member? What are the differences between the following downloads:

Garmin POI (Custom POI with extended info) Garmin FAQ
Garmin Sound (Audio alert for Garmin POI file) Talking POI FAQ
Garmin upload (direct) FAQ about Garmin direct POI upload
Garmin GPX (proximity alert, phone dial, etc.) Garmin FAQ

and do I need to reload them frequently (how often?) to be sure they are current?

I appreciate any light anyone can shed on this for me!

In order to download the audio/visual warnings files (as in as you are driving there is an alert!).. You must be registered and to do that I believe there is a small fee. Then you can download the POI files with the actual audio/mp3 and visual warnings. The free files you can download are simply POI's. You can find out where they are like you would a Starbucks or even set one as a destination, but there are no warnings. You will be able to download a few files however One must participate in the forum to "unlock" the lifetime membership and unlimited downloading capability.

Hope this helps...

Yes, you do have to become a registered member in order to download some of the mp3 files.
I just became a member so I'm still new around here...but plan on hanging around and helping out Smile
I havent tested the files on my Nuvi yet but am anxious to see how they work (the poi files).
Thanks for such a great site!

When I have downloaded POI files (eg Speed Cameras) in 3 different regions I have also downloaded the MP3 audio files for each. Since the MP3 files are exactly the same do I need to download all of them or will only one suffice.

Being new and inexperienced I downloaded GPS Data Team's safety camera POIs. To make sure I did not mess up I kept my Garmin safety camera POIs, as well. Now I get two warnings for the same thing, which does not bother me. The instruction are in different voices but they are in synch without being scrambled. Hopefully this is true of all the POIs.

The GPS Data team safety POI's etc are updated every time new info comes in. I only use the GPS data team files.

Post Yet Another Newbie

I too am a Newbie here, I have had my 760 for over a year now. I just joined today though. I have already created a folder system to put them in. My question is what files do I need so that I will hear and see the alerts that I download on to my GPS???

There's BMP, CSV, GPX and then there's MP3 & WAV, from what I've read so far, I don't need the GPX & CSV together, I just need to know which combo to put in the file for my 760. Say like BMP, CSV & MP3???

Also, I see Safety cameras, Red Light, Speed Trap, Mobile, Accident & School, plus Speed Zones in the list(s). I do a lot of travelling throughout the U.S. So can anyone tell me if there is an All-In-One file with everything in it or do I have too download and sort all the files separately and then load them???

Thanks In Advance

After reading through a lot of posts, I figured it out. For my 760 I need the BMP, GPX & the MP3 all in one file and then fire up the POI Loader and choose which ones I would like on my GPS.

I kinda wanted all of the road safety stuff because I travel alot, but what I think I'll do is put those files on my laptop also and add and subtract as needed.

Thanks

You actually only need the BMP, CSV & MP3 files, or just the GPX & MP3 files together.

However you can load as many different POI's as you wish. I currently have over 11,000 and still have a lot more to go.
All you need to do is have all your POI files in the one folder on your PC. They can even be mix and match GPX & CSV. The POI loader will load everything that's in that one folder.

If you still have problems, you may need to uninstall the POI's from your Nuvi and then reinstall again afterwards.
POI Loader will do this for you as well.

Cheers,
