Hi, is there any one that purchased there Garmin in the last few months that is to get the fee update to 2009 Australian maps got there update yet?

Love the unit (Nuvi 760) really hate the large amount of map errors. I'm very frustrated that that CD version is out but I have not received any instructions from Garmin re the free update. I have emailed them but have had no reply. The store just says that I will be contacted by Garmin and don't give me any time period!

Maybe I have just missed something

Also I have not yet received the $100 back yet, has any one gotten there's?

I have talked to Garmin Au on the phone (got straight through to a human) the rebate takes 8 weeks to process so I should get it in late September.
I have talked with Garmin au, USA and Europe via email they keep saying that I should be able to down load from the web site (or order a free copy of the CD).
I have sent screen captures of the web site to prove to them it is not there.
Waiting for a response from one of them now.

Post good unit, but poor service

Garmin is really good one, but it is really good service? I'm not sure. You go out market, you can easily find Tomtom accessory anywhere, how about Garmin? Only unit products.

Is there a rebate to anyone who purchased the 760 in the last couple of weeks?

I got the map update today. looks good but I have not driven anywere with it yet, I did do a simulated drive trough to a new road near my house(around 10 months old) were the road runs differant to where it was due to a new estate it is much better compared to the 2008 maps but has a big error in it where one section of the road that was deleted (bull dosed) is still there. but the run up to this and beyond this is correct.

the rebate is still runing as far as I know. Simply download and fill out the Cash Back Claim form, and send off to Garmin. (I could not find the link on the Garmin site) but hurry the cut off date is 7th September. it takes 8 weeks to process once they recive your mailed in rebate form.

I have been using the AU 2009 for the last 4 days and while it is better in some ways it still has trouble finding some streets (like king street Redcliffe) and some street numbers.
I am very glad I did not have to pay for this update (got it as the free update).

The big problem I have now is version 4 software for the nuvi has a major problem in that when you are navigating along and you come up to a round about or to a turn it says in 350 meters turn etc but the screen says in 150meters (bottom right hand side of the screen) and you are around the 100 to 150 meters away from the turn or round about. I rang Garmin Au about this today and it is a known problem with version 4 of the software, there is no immediate fix but Garmin USA is working on it !! I asked about when this would come out, they said some time between now and the end of the month?!?!?! There is no way to jump back to an earlier version of the software ether other than sending the unit to Garmin and being with out the unit for 2 weeks or so.
The other problem with version 4 is the sound for the street that you are turning into stutters.

I hope this will be sorted sooner rather than later as this is dangerous in the truck.

Post free (?) update

I also purchased a Garmin GPS understanding that I was entitled to a free update if a new map was released within the first 12 months after purchase. After making contact with Garmin and the retailer I have been told that there will be no free update. Regards, WJM

I was also waiting for the free update ... and waiting ... and waiting. The new 2009 map has arrived, but I now had to pay for it.
One thing I did notice is that the purchase cost going through the US based site was considerably less than going throught the Australia site ... odd.

Is like trying to get blood from a stone. Emails and web surfing still have not got me my FREE 2009 update. I see that it says the update is only valid for 60 days after first satellite aquisition.
Mine shows January 2008 and I purchased it as a new unit in Late September 2008. I feel someone is leading me around by the short and curlies. Still waiting on a reply from Garmin.
JB Hi-fi just keep asking the same questions.
Anyone got any ideas how to get around this issue... or no how to deal with clowns.

Hi Chubbychops

I purchased a Nuvi 760 yesterday and acquired the first satellite signal today. The 2009 map download was showing in My Garmin (https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces) and I was able to download the new maps with no problem.

Since your 60 days download period is due to expire in late November, suggest you email Garmin USA (rather than Australia) and get them to reset your first satellite acquisition date.
