Nuvi 65 and Nuvi 1490 Display Compared

After a few years using a Nuvi 1490T, I recently purchased a Nuvi 65 and I am somewhat disappointed with the screen display.

The Nuvi 1490T has a 5.2 inch screen compared with the larger 6 inch screen on the Nuvi 65. However, the image intensity on the larger screen does not seem as rich. I am experiencing difficulty in reading the screen on bright days; a problem I do not have with the Nuvi 1490T mounted beside it.

Further, the arrangement of items on the screen of the Nuvi 65 is less appealing to me and I find it more difficult to read. The speed limit display is smaller and where the Nuvi 1490T shows overspeed as an easy to see change in the colour of the digits from black to red, the Nuvi 65 has not only relocated the display but if the speed limit is exceeded, the digits remain black against the white background while pink shading appears to the sides of the digits as a warning of the overspeed.

To me the speed indicator is important because I believe it to be much more accurate than the vehicle speedometer. In my case the speedometer reading is as much a ten kmh above the Garmin reading depending upon the vehicle speed. It therefore is important to me to be able to clearly see and instantly read the speed reading displayed on the Nuvi. And since my eye and my brain coordinate to single out the important digit reading it is very easy to miss the pink shading. In fact with the pale output of the display, regardless of the display settings, it is difficult to read the display sufficient to even find the speed icons.

I am very disappointed with the Nuvi 65 display.
