| Posted by john.randle SD Card File Structure - Garmin Nuvi 2797 I have used the POILoader to add the safety cameras to my 2797 and it seemed to work fine. On the 2797 "internal" memory, the file structure reflects a number of folders of which "GARMIN" and "POI" are at the same level. I then loaded the safety camera data file".gpx" file under the "POI" folder and the POILoader created a 376kb *.gpi" file. under the "POI" folder. With most of the 8GB available on the 2797 now being occupied, I asked GARMIN about the maximum size SD card that the 2797 would accept and the answer was 8GB. With a desire to add more POI's, I then created a "GARMIN" folder on the 8GB SD card and a "POI" folder under "GARMIN". I then created "SAFETY", "PARKS" and "WIFI" folders under the "POI" folder and then downloaded the poi's from this site into the respective folders. I then ran POILoader against the SD card and noted that it created a 492KB ".gpi" file under the "POI" folder (at the same level as the "SAFETY","PARKS", and "WIFI" folders). My questions at this point are: 1. Should I go back into the "internal" storage on the 2797 now and delete the POI folder with its "SAFETY" folder and its ".gpi" file or leave them be (I do not want double alerts). 2. On the SD card, should I move the "POI" folder to be at the same level as the "GARMIN" folder, replicating the structure on the //internal storage? 3. If I move the "POI" folder on the SD card, should I then delete the "GARMIN" folder on the SD card as it would be "empty" and duplicate the "GARMIN" folder on the internal storage? This would leave just a "POI" folder at the root level on the SD card. |
| Posted by john.randle SD Card File Structure .. Nuvi 2797 As an update, with the *.gpi" file on both the internal and external(SD) storage, I was getting double alerts on speed cameras. I deleted the "*.gpi" file from the internal storage and the 2797 now gives just single alerts. |
| Posted by kevinpp4 SD card file structure If you have gpi files on both the internal and external storage that the device merges them. I guess merges really means concatenates and that's why you had double alerts. |
