How to overwrite default POI Alert SOUND?

I have a Nuvi 510 which is a Nuvi 200 made waterproof....and then the price quadrupled....sigh.

I use it on my motorcycle and the audio comes through my helmet via bluetooth. Problem is the quick "bing-bong" of POI speed cameras is too short to activate the bluetooth. So I get NO audio warning.

I don't want to add new POIs as the ones I have are fine. I just need to change the audio alert.

Any ideas?

When you use POI loader to load the entries into the GPS, there is an option as to the distance that you wish to be warned prior to the alert.
Select the one that suits your purpose and all should be ok...

POIs are already installed

But I'm not using the loader since the POI are already in my GPS. I just need to change the alert sound only.

I'm guessing I could copy the POIs that are already in my unit and then RE-install them using the loader and then choosing the alert sound. But I don't know how to do that.

And it seems like there should be an easier way.

Re: Odd that no one knows how to do this...

Thanks for explaining it so clearly. So it seems like I can't extract the original BMP and GPX files from the GPI files.......but is there any way to fix my problem?

OK.
1. Make a directory on your computer called POI
2. Put all your downloaded POI's into that directory.
3. Put POI Loader and a program called SOX.exe in the same directory;
(sox.exe can be found on this site by search)
4. When you have ALL files required I.E. .GPX, BMP, WAV or MP3,
(they all must have the same name but different extension)
then you use poi loader to load the files to the gps.

Please Note: POI loader combines ALL your poi files in that directory into ONE file ONLY, then loads that file, poi.gpi to the GPS.
