| Posted by Royce Nuvi 265w firmware & map updates I am trying to get updates for my 265w. I have tried to use my HP notebook with Windows 7. I download the Webupdater, but it cannot connect to the Nuvi even though it recognizes it. Any help appreciated. |

| Posted by jamesflys Re: Nuvi 265w firmware & map updates I have the Nuvi 265w but use both a iMac osx 10.6 and HP & Acer Lap/netbook running XP What I do is, Plug the Nuvi in to the mini USB with the Nuvi turned off. The Nuvi will start with a black screen with "Garmin", a progress bar and a icon of a nuvi connected to a computer. When the green progress bar completes the Nuvi will load on to the desktop (osx)/ My computer(xp) . Start Garmin WebUpdater: https://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/topic/365.html When WebUpdater loads the Nuvi should be accessible. Hope this helps |

Also be sure to download (from Garmin) the POI Loader. 1st - You MUST create an online account/profile . Once done sign in to view updates - Connect the Nuvi 265w to your computer (I also have this model) - Go to Garmin's site to Road Safety and or POI update - Click "My Dashboard" for software updates - Click "My Maps" for map updates It's really quite simple once you've done it a few times. Hope this info can help you. |

I also have the same unit, I have no problems updating software and maps, but you do need to follow c764's advise for the system to work. For the European maps I use 4Gb additional SD memory card as the map data is now about 2.5Gb. From specifications I found on-line these units can handle up to 16Gb. Kjell |

Haven't bought them that way but would think that they should work out of the box as some people do not have computers to download info to the GPS. |
