Displaying POI's on screen

I thought I read a link which described how to turn on POI's so they display on the screen all the time. I do a lot of Geocaching and like to see when a cache is approaching and what type it is. Can the POI's be turned on in a Garmin like a TomTom? I have a Kenwood with Garmin hardware.

Me too!

I would also like to know how to do this. I'm using a 3790T and I have been able to load the POIs and configure proximity alerts successfully. However, I never see the icon displayed on-screen. Help !!

Icon fix ??

I believe I found a fix for the icon problem. See my post over here : http://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/viewtopic.php?t=4812

No Icons

Same here I downloaded all the Safety POI for Canada and I can't see any Speed Camera Icons. Only the proximity alert is working. It's weird because I imported the old, working bitmap image in my Garmin nuvi 1370t.

Brendan, I get it but HOW did you get them to display. I followed your link but I cannot make sense of it.

Thanks mate

Garmin's advice

OK. Spoke with Garmin. First reply was to save the poi's over to favourites. Bit hard with 7000 poi's. Second I asked how the camera alerts were able to tell the software to display the icon when they are also in the custom POI file? They told me it was in the POI when it was created. Bit like DNA I expect!!! Does anyone know what it is about the speed camera POI's that enables the icon to be displayed????
