TomTom mount

Hi All, I purchased a vent mount for my 340 XL. It fits to the louvers of the air con vents. I have been using it for several months and it works a really well. It came from the US and cost about $10.

Alternative mounts for TomTom units

Quite a few of my friends have made their own mounts for various makes of SatNav because (a) the original was not very practical and (b) replacements/alternatives are expensive.

I must admit that some of these 'DIY' mounts do not make for the best 'eye candy', but they are very secure. The best one was made for a TomTom where the original mount's sucker was not man enough and kept falling off the windscreen. My friend contacted a company that make industrial grade suckers that windscreen replacement companies use to hold the glass while they are fitting it to a vehicle. The rubber cup is large with a chunky lock bar, but once its on it certainly wont come off by accident!! My friend used the original bracket and screwed that to the new suction cup. Again... it looks a bit 'clunky' but is VERY secure.

I agree

The factory TT mount is very good looking but unless it is well secured it does have a habit of falling off...

For alternatives, I would definitely not recommend goose arm ones (ie, bendy ones). They vibrate too much. Basically you get what you pay for.

I found that, and I haven't gone anywhere with it yet.

However, it seems to me the instructions are a bit wrong. They seemed to indicate that you turned the base locker in one direction, which I did and it wouldn't stick for more than a couple of minutes. So I tried turning the base locker in the opposite direction and bingo. Works a treat now!
