Nuvi 760 freezing

I'm not too sure how many times this topic has been raised, but my Nuvi 760 is 'freezing' when going to an address or on a route. The Nuvi has the latest firmware release, 4.9, and I have reset it, but the problem still remains.
Does anyone have a solution, other than throwing it in a river!
:D

750 Freezing

My 750 froze up twice on a trip to Texas from Alabama. It did it coming and going in the same place. I suspected that one or more of my POI's was giving me trouble. My POI's are in separate files on the GPS, so after I got home, I started eliminating them one by one until I hit the problem POI file. I created a short route that would cover the freeze area and ran it in simulation mode. It froze on my ExxonMobil POI files. I loaded only that file with the MP3 and it did not freeze. As soon as I loaded it with the BMP icon file, it froze. Everytime. I have not spent the time trying to determine the other freeze up, but you might try something along this line if it freezes at the same location. I suspect there are many other problems that cause a freeze. I am running the latest software and maps.

HTH, Curt

Curt, delete your existing BMP icon and download it again from http://poidirectory.com/poifiles/united_states/petrol/
Do not open it, press the save button and upload it with the POI Loader.

Thanks for the URL, basirb. I had already found a cleaner version and it works very well with it.

FWIW, I was trying to show that many problems can be isolated and repaired without crying to Garmin, because they (for the most part) aren't going to help. On my problem described above, I wrote to them and they told me to upgrade my software. I was already running the latest version of software and maps. Just to be sure, I attempted to update, it told me that it was the latest version, ask me if I wanted to re-install, I said yes, and no change. I had to figgure it out myself. The icon I was using was not the right pixel count among other things, but there was no indication that it was bad since it showed up during the simulation mode. Coming back from Texas, I stayed at the same campground and discovered that it froze on the other side of the Exxon Station (one mile notification). I had to use the process of elimination to discover the culprit.

A little detective work can go a long way.
