Garmin File Formats

Hi,

I've been using a C330 for around 4 years but only ever loaded POIs that I had created myself (usually in MapSource). Therefore the only file format I'm familiar with is .gdb (Garmin Data Base ?).

Having treated myself to a new 255W, I'm now looking to load some POIs for supermarkets in Europe. I've downloaded some to play around with in both .csv and .gpx format but will probably want to edit out those which I don't want.

Am I correct in thinking that the procedure is as follows :

1) Upload the .gpx file to the unit using Garmin's POI Loader
2) Download the data from the unit to MapSource
3) Amend the file as required
4) Clear the data from the 255 unit
5) Upload to unit from MapSource

It occurs to me that, were I to work with an SD card, rather than the unit memory, it would be easier to clear the data at stage 4)

Or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

Any help appreciated.

Re: Garmin File Formats

I recon the SD card is the best way to experiment as you won't corrupt or delete the GPS data.
That is what I have been doing for 3 months and no mistakes transfered to the GPS.

SD Cards + File Formats

Thanks for the response.

That's what I've been doing over the last week. Took a flyer on a 4Mb card,
albeit Garmin Tech say a maximum of 2Mb, and have been playing around with the unit. Slowly but surely getting there with info collected on this site.
