Deleting files off GPS using Computer

I have a Garmin 255w, and I was wondering if it is safe to delete files I don't need, like non-English speaking and text off the GPS using Windows Explorer? The GPS looks just like another drive, and I'm thinking that its no problem, but I want to be sure that I don't mess up the Garmin O/S or something like that. Thanks.

Just make sure you don't delete any required files that the system uses.
Also helps if you COPY all files you are going to delete in case you want them again later on.

Backups are important

I'd be inclined to back your files up to another location before you start mucking around with deleting files.

You might be able to free up a bit of space but without a backup to go back to you might end up in a world of hurt if you haven't made a copy.
