| Posted by kennedys.email Nuvi freezes after firmware upgrade My Nuvi 760 has worked faultleesly for 2 years until 2 days ago after I updated the firmware from version 4.8 to version 4.9 downloaded from the Garmin website. Symptoms: when travelling a route to a destination, I move only about 500 metres when the moving map & vehicle position freeze on the screen and the FM transmitter to the car radio ceases to operate (goes to static). If I turn the Nuvi off and on again it will work resuming the route but will again freeze in about another 500 metres. The trip log will record a breadcrumb trail only for the sections of the trip where the Nuvi does not freeze. Has anybody else had problems after upgrading to version 4.9 which I believe has only just been released? I will contact Garmin Tech Support come Monday to see if they can offer me assistance and report back the outcome. |

| Posted by mike3333333333 Garmin 760 and version 4.9 Yes, I had the same problem after installing 4.9, it was driving me crazy!. Reading the forum comments shows me that this is not an uncommon problem. I have now reverted to the previous version (4.8) and my sanity has been restored. I contacted Garmin about this and they told me that they had not heard of this problem before (yeah, right), but that if V.4.8 worked for me I should stay with it. There was a time when Garmin support would actually be helpful. |

| Posted by kennedys.email Master reset Garmin I emailed Garmin Tech Support, and within the day received the following advice: Try doing the master reset, which will clear all user data. - Start with the unit off, then hold finger in the lower right of screen and power unit on, - release power and keep holding down on the screen until the message "Erase all User Data" appears. - Select yes and the unit will reset. This action successfully corrected the reported freezing problem. No data was lost from the Nuvi except for Favourites. The Nuvi retained V4.90 firmware. |

| Posted by mike3333333333 Nuvi 760 Freezes after firmware upgrade My email reply from garmin was so very different for the same problem. Maybe they just reply with what first comes mind? Anyway, I am gald that resetting cured the problem for you, but that is what I always do when updating and it did not prevent my unit from freezing. I suspect that the problem is associated with nearby clusters of favourites and or POIs as my freezes would happen in those circumstances. I did not test this too much as I, not being employed by Garmin, have better things to do. After you reset and the freezing stopped, did you have the same favourites / POIs installed as before? |

| Posted by kennedys.email Nuvi 760 Freezes after firmware upgrade As stated in my previous post, after reset, no info was lost other than the current list of Favourites. V4.9 Firmware, Garmin POIs & GPS Data Team POIs loaded on the Garmins internal memory all remained, as did non-Garmin maps on the loaded onto the SD card memory (although I did take the precaution of making copies on my PC of all the above, just in case they were lost). |

For newer Nuvi models: - Switch the Nuvi unit on, - go to main menu --> Master Volume control screen - press and hold the right upper screen corner for 10 seconds - choose any servicing option that you need |
