| Posted by Guest Creating routes on a sat nav I still have a MIO A201 handheld running TT Navigator 6 but I have recently bought a Garmin Nuvi 660 as I could get a cheap map for New Zealand, a country I am visiting in the near future. I got fed up with the MIO because I could not get it to sync with my two laptops both running Vista Home Premium Thus making updating TT6 impossible. I now find that the Nuvi is difficult to use with POIs. Adding them and amending them without a computer appears to be impossible. I cannot see any simple way to enable and disable groups of POIs. It would be good to only have the UK POIs visible when in the UK for example. TT had a great and simple to use "Itinerary" function making pre planning using only TT6 very easy. The Garmin is totally useless in this sphere. It appears that a beginning point, end point and one via is the norm. I do some part time work mostly in France visiting campsites for a Campsite Guide and I need to plan my route in advance of the visit. This is both useful for me and a requirement of the company that need to know approximate mileage for costing purposes. What I basically need is Simple entry and amendment of POIs Ability to enable and disable groups of POIs. Ability to plan lengthy routes with many way points on route What is the best make and model of sat nav to buy? |
| Posted by martynghjones Re: Creating routes on a sat nav I haven't seen any GPS that offers the facilities you require. Most people seem to find editing POI files easier on a computer. Martyn. |
| Posted by Retread24800 No Computer? poi's You have laptops, you have a Garmin, download the poi manager, download the poi's that you need here in France for your travels. Two clicks and theyre loaded, enter your start, enter your destination, go back enter waypoint via 'where to', click set as waypoint repeat ad nausiam and youve got it. Simples!!! |
