Posted by djc Mixture of KM/hr and mile/hr speed cameras I am about to load POIs into my new Nuvi 660 and, so far, I have selected speed camera POIs for the UK and France all from this web site. I have the UK and French POIs in different folders. For each speed camera (UK and French) I have a bmp, gpx and mp3 file all with the same name (before the dot - extension). When downloading the gpx files each time I selected a warning distance of 200 m. Must I make any changes to these files before uploading them to my 660, using the Gamin uploader? Though I am very new to the Nuvi 660 and to the Garmin GPS systems (ex TomTom user!) I feel much more confident after spending several hours perusing this forum. |

Posted by johmazz2006 Mixture of files Just make sure you have separate sub directories under the C:/Garmin/POI directory, and point the POI loader to Garmin/POI as it puts ALL files in directories under there, into one file called POI.gpi then uploads that to the GPS. |

Posted by djc Loading POIs I understand that I must load all my POIs at one time as those that are in the sat nav will be overwritten. I also understand that I should create a directory which it is recommended is called C:/Garmin/POI with all the necessary sub directories for the usually large number of POI categories. The Garmin loader will then load all the POIs in C:\Garmin\POI directory and its sub directories. When I load my POIs will the POIs originally loaded by Garmin on the new sat nav be overwritten if I upload new POIs or are they stored separately? Finally (phew!) where should I store my own POIs? Due to limitations of the sat nav memory I have read that it is better to use the SD card. Do I need to use a particular directory or can i simply choose a name for the directory? Many thanks. |

Good start. Here is what I do: I download all Canadian POI files to c:\gps-data-team\Canada I save all other files (USA POIs) to to c:\gps-data-team\USA I save CA files with POI Loader (km/hr) to my hard disk and rename the output GPI file to Canada.gpi I restart POI Loader using my USA files (mph) and rename it's output to USA.gpi It works well when I copy both (renamed) GPI files to my Garmin. I found this hack explained somewhere in the Garmin forum. Hope it helps |

Posted by e-uy Thanks for the tip I'm just going through this exercise as we speak as I'm travelling to the US and have several files in MPH which I naturally want to keep seperate to my Australian files. Thanks for the tips. This should make life a little easier for me. |
